Hello! I’m Teresa O’Connor, an award-winning writer, social media consultant and communications project manager with experience working with companies, universities, publications and non-profits in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
My specialty: Translating complex topics like agriculture, food policy, science and horticulture into simple language for mainstream audiences.
I’ve written about the global food system, farming, gardening, livestock, climate change, wildlife management, seed diversity and more for Civil Eats, Food Tank, PBS SoCal, University of California's Office of President, Yes! Magazine, Fine Gardening, Horticulture Magazine and other regional/national publications.

Over the years, I’ve worn a lot of hats. I’ve been a reporter for national magazines. I’ve written for corporations, universities, agencies and large non-profits. I was a garden blogger for Fiskars and TroyBilt. And I co-authored the book “Grocery Gardening” with three social media influencers.
Most recently, I was the California Communications and Outreach Manager for American Farmland Trust, where my writing helped to protect farmland, accelerate regenerative agriculture and increase the business viability of farmers in the nation’s number-one food producing state.
At AFT, I was communications lead for the Food and Farm Resilience Coalition. This 17-organization group helped lead to the successful passage of Proposition 4 on California’s November 2024 ballot. This is investing $10 billion in climate change-related infrastructure projects, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving resilience to extreme weather events.
Before that I was assistant editor of UC Food Observer, which reported on the food system for the University of California’s Office of President. I wrote about everything from the latest food trends to unusual crops like millet and sorghum. Many of these posts were later published by PBS SoCal and industry publications.
For the Organization of Wildlife Planners, I edited a quarterly newsletter for fish and wildlife agencies nationwide on everything from climate change to funding challenges.
One of my earliest jobs was doing public relations for Ocean Spray Cranberries and Welch’s Grape Juice, as well as luxury travel destinations, where I worked with leading food and travel reporters.
I know there are many ways to tell your story.
Whether it’s articles, blogs, brochures, online newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, press releases or social media campaigns, if you need it, I can write it.
